About

A practice grounded in respect, curiosity, and the courage to be real.
The name Tara Psychology is inspired by wisdom that is both fearless and compassionate. Like the lotus rising from mud, therapy is a space to make sense of what you've lived through and reconnect with what matters.
At Tara Psychology, I help you find the rhythm that fits your nervous system and your life. For some, equilibrium looks like calm. For others, it's focus, momentum, or clarity. Your unique experiences shape who you are, and so should the care you receive.
This road was never made with me in mind

Meet Your Psychologist
Hello!
I'm Kayla, an AHPRA Registered Psychologist and Clinical Psychology Registrar, passionate about psychology and supporting people to live more authentically.
My values
Here are a few things that guide how I work with each person:
-
Kindness – Kindness is respect in action. I believe showing kindness toward ourselves and others keeps the world turning. Change begins with compassion and creating a warm, non-judgemental space for everyone.
-
Curiosity – I am deeply inquisitive by nature. I meet every person with genuine interest in their story and what matters most to them.
-
Growth – I see life as colourful and ever-changing. Change can be slow, steady, or unexpected. I'm a lifelong learner, always exploring new ideas and perspectives, staying current with research, and remaining adaptive to your needs.
-
Dedication – I bring a strong work ethic to everything I do. You can expect high standards of care and quality assessments that reflect my commitment to your goals.
Professional background
Before founding Tara Psychology, I spent over a decade in the homelessness sector, leading programs for women and children navigating complex challenges including family violence, mental health concerns, systemic discrimination, and justice system involvement. My responsibilities included service delivery, staff supervision, policy, and accreditation, with a focus on embedding client-centred practice across all levels of the organisation.
I also worked within state government on family violence and social housing projects, deepening my understanding of the social and structural forces that shape mental health.
A little more about me...
Outside of work, you'll find me at the piano, in the garden, or finding moments of calm in a noisy world.

Therapeutic Approach
At Tara Psychology therapy draws on evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy. Interventions are guided by clinical insight and what is most useful for each person.
Neurodiversity Affirming Care
The strengths and challenges of neurodivergent minds are recognised throughout care. Therapy may focus on sensory regulation, executive function, burnout, masking, or the social and systemic toll of being misunderstood.
Trauma-Informed Support
Trauma is a deeply personal experience that leaves a lasting imprint. Therapy is paced to your readiness, and grounded in collaboration, safety, and respect for how trauma is held in the body and mind.
Culturally Safe and Inclusive Practice
Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Therapy is grounded in awareness of how culture, identity, and social context shape wellbeing. Support stays respectful, responsive, and aligned with your values and lived experience.
